Welcome to the 811 Student Safety Challenge
Safety is in your hands. Every dig. Every time.
Grades 4 – 6
Poster Contest
Students in grades 4 – 6 are invited to design a poster that teaches their community why it’s important to contact 811 before digging. This contest gives younger learners a fun, creative way to express the message of safe digging while reinforcing essential safety habits at home and school.
Grades 7 – 12
Video Contest
Students in grades 7 – 12 can showcase their storytelling and production skills by creating a short video encouraging their community to contact 811. This challenge empowers teens to use their voices and their creativity to spread awareness about safe digging and protect the places they live, learn, and play.
About
About the 811 Safety Challenge
The 811 Student Safety Challenge sponsored is by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and developed by the National Energy Foundation (NEF)! Our mission is to empower students as safety ambassadors, equipping them and their
families to become more familiar with and educated about this simple rule:
Safety is in your hands. Every dig. Every time.
These contests offer teachers a straightforward way to integrate safety education into their classroom curricula. The teacher’s role is to help students understand the reasons why contacting 811 is an important part of energy safety for neighborhoods.
The poster contest is for grades 4th through 6th. The video contest is for students in grades 7th through 12th. These free contests are for schools in the United States only.
